CHALLENGE:
Irina and Igor Ilyinsky envisioned their coffee shop as one
truly evocative of coffee culture—a beautifully warm, inviting and
child-friendly space that also catered to the local demographic of
laptop-carrying professionals. Yet development and decor not only
needed to be economical but quick and convenient as the two proprietors
would be running their other respective businesses during construction.
SOLUTION:
A simple but steadfast statement, the
@Spot’s design emulates coffee in color and ambiance. The walls are
coated with rich reds, browns and oranges to complement the intense
saturation of the coffee-bean colored floors which was acid-etched onto
the existing concrete for its quick and economical, but beautiful and
easy-to-maintain, application. An understated strip of track lighting
in the open, dark cieling softly illuminates the seating area. For the
parents, a children’s area, with soft rugs and toys, is provided and
the bathroom has a baby-changing station. For the professionals, the
cafe is equipped with WiFi and ample power receptacles are available
for laptop users.
