SINGLE FAMILY HOME for FAIR SKY DEVELOPMENT
620
Hunter, Glenview, IL
5200 SF
CHALLENGE:
Having
part of the lot in a flood plan while building in a highly sought-after
neighborhood with lots of available real estate, the developer needed
to erect a unique home that would attractively set itself apart than
the other new houses in the area in order to secure a quick sell and
post a much-desired “sold” sign in the front yard.
SOLUTION:
With
the client’s specific needs and goals as the inspiration, the resulting
design used an extraordinary mix of brick and natural cedar to make the
home blend beautifully with the other houses on the street, while also
evoking distinction through the use of proportional dormers,
Prarie-patterned windows lining the front and back and a traditional
front portico that gave the entry a formal look—setting the 5200 square
feet, six bedrooms, 5.5 bath house apart from those of the neighboring
homes. The overbearing boxiness of the three-car garage was
de-emphasized by rotating two car spaces 90 degrees from the facade and
pushing the third space back. Additionally, a concrete water-retaining
wall was installed to create a deep window well in the backyard,
bringing extra light into the basement and transforming the dark,
restrictive space into an inviting one.
